The History of Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz is a world-known German automobile manufacturer. It is famous for its perfect quality and everything about Mercedes-Benz is considered to be high-end. The history of Mercedes-Benz goes back to 1880s when it was started by Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz. They invented a vehicle with internal combustion engine. The interesting fact is that they both lived in Southwest Germany but didn’t know about each other’s work. They worked individually and never met.Daimler’s main work were racing cars. These cars were very popular and Emil Jellinek who was a dealer got them into races. He had a daughter Mercedes and the cars were named after her.
Being deeply impressed with Daimler’ cars, Jellinek made a large order. But his proposal was to get the right to modify the design and give them the name Mercedes. He also had the right to sell the vehicles in Europe.
Although Daimler’s cars were more popular than those of Benz, both of them managed to win in the French Grand Prix in 1908.
Under specific circumstances during the WWI the two rivals had to team up. Thus in 1926 the Daimler's Motorengesellshaft joined Benz & Cie and Daimler – Benz AG was created.
The new company needed a trademark. In order to create the logo they combined some elements from each company. The three-pointed star symbolized Daimler’s idea of universal motorization – “on land, on water and in the air”. It was surrounded by the names ‘Mercedes’ and ‘Benz’ entwined by the laurel wreath.
Since then Mercedes-Benz vehicles have been considered the world’s best cars. They are available in more than 129 countries through the wide network of dealerships. Mercedes-Benz also produces buses, coaches, trucks, sport cars.
